Shiv Sena MPs who attended a meeting convened by Uddhav Thackeray at his residence on Monday “requested” him to support Murmu and open the door to a possible reconciliation with BJP and the breakaway Shinde faction
The Shiv Sena core committee led by Uddhav Thackeray has decided to support NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu in the upcoming presidential election, sources told CNN News18.
The development comes a day after several Shiv Sena MPs who attended a meeting convened by Uddhav Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai “requested” him to support NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu for President and open the door to a possible reconciliation with the BJP and the breakaway Eknath Shinde faction, reports said.
Sources said 13 of the party’s 18 Lok Sabha MPs from Maharashtra and two of its three Rajya Sabha MPs attended the meeting at Matoshree and at least eight of them supported Murmu’s candidature and a possible “patch-up” with the BJP and the Shinde faction, Indian Express reported.
The Sena has 18 Lok Sabha MPs from Maharashtra and one, Kalaben Delkar, from Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Sena leaders said two MPs from among those who did not attend Monday’s meeting had informed the party in advance that they would not attend and were granted leave of absence.
